Best NOVA/DC clubs for GK development?

Anonymous
My kid just became a FT GK this year primarily because his new club says if you’re a keeper, you’re a keeper. While getting great “GK training” with the amount of scrimmaging done, the club GK training is basically non-existent so there really isn’t any true technical GK development. We’re looking at options in advance of the spring tryout season. What clubs have good legit, GK training and actually have some focus on true GK development?

probably would help get you better info if you specify where you are/where you're willing to travel.

Most clubs do not offer a ton of GK development that is baked into team practices. Some clubs will offer an extra GK training session, 1 time per week to help develop the GKs. Some clubs will not extend this training for Little GKs and only offer it for older GKs.

Most serious GKs usually have to find outside of club development. But that is true for almost all serious players. If you weren't tracking, starting at u10, most top team players supplement team training with outside of club extra sessions for both skills and strength work.

Looking at clubs between the Arlington, Springfield, Alexandria, McLean area. My keeper has played for 2 area clubs and the weekly GK training is drastically different in quality so I’m interested in what other clubs offer so we have a better idea on where to focus spring tryouts.

Alexandria offers weekly goal keeper training, but not sure on the level of quality.

ASA goalie training is really good. SYC is also good. It all depends on what team you are playing, though. Only the top teams will get you the best training.

VDA has an awesome dedicated keeper coach with robust training program. They tape all the sessions with Veo to review or splice together for college coaches. Keepers train for at least an hour before they meet up with their teams. No issues from DD or me

Uhm- not anymore.

I have not seen a GK coach at our games all season. They also don’t pay for assistant coaches to travel. With no assistant coach and no GK coach there is no adequate warm up for the defensive line like other clubs seem to have…
