Career Coach recommendation

Anonymous
Hi, I am looking for a career coach for my college-aged son. He is extremely bright but has dropped out of a top engineering program, as he struggles mightily with ADHD and executive function challenges, and consequently mental health disorders. He says he is done with college. TBH my husband and I (and all our extended family and friends) have advanced degrees and don't quite know which direction to point him. We don't have direct experience with people who haven't finished college, as obnoxious as that sounds. This is such a dramatic departure from what we all thought his life would look like. How to find a career that will not bore a bright ADHD mind and will provide him some financial security?

Has he held down a PT job or does he give up/throw in the towel quickly? For most office based careers there is a pay your dues and deal with the monotony that young adults accept as part of the long haul, depending on how severe his ADHD is and whether he has a handle on it, I’d probably say stay out of office based careers and go into trades.

I heard someone say recently that if you enjoy 50 percent or more of your job, that’s a win! The rest is why they call it work. If he’s not able to handle that equation, he needs to get there.
