Does the asterisk matter?

So if your kid gets an A first quarter and a B second quarter, the semester grade will be A*. Does that asterisk factor into GPA? (I assume no.) Do colleges notice? (I assume yes.) Mostly just curious.

Is this a new policy?

The asterisk has nothing to do with first quarter and second quarter. The only things that shows on transcripts is semesters grades. The asterisk only appears if it's a HS course taken in MS, because these only get factored into the GPA if they help the gpa.

Are you sure? The MCPS website has a page with "High School Mark Patterns" that seems to suggest as much. But maybe I'm misreading it.

Omg you are misreading it.

The * means, as the document says:
"All calculations in the table above are the same as the previous high school grading
table, except where marked with *"

Ah, good to know--thanks. My DD had told me she was worried about it. Anyway, sorry/nevermind.
