SWS - who are programs geared for?

Anonymous
My child is not in a DCPS self-contained classroom, but whether he would benefit from that placement has been discussed. Ultimately, it was determined she should stay in a gen-ed classroom. I read that SWS has a program that is somewhat of a combo of a gen-ed classroom and a self-contained classroom? Can anyone tell me more about this program and what students are the best candidates for this placement?

Thank you.

I would suggest posting in the special needs forum and / or calling the school.

It's for kids with HFA. There is a similar program at Takoma and another at, I believe, Seaton. Placement is not through the lottery, but if you lottery into SWS, the SpEd team may work with you.

Yeah. This thread really belongs in the special needs forum. That’s where you’ll get the most information info. You can probably ask Jeff to move it. Most will have no idea what you’re talking about here. I think it was called CES.

Our DC was in the program and it sounds like yours might be a good candidate. Like the PP said, there are other offerings around DCPS.

You have to be placed in the program by the district after a lot of data collection by your IEP team, you can't just lottery into the school to be placed there. There is talks that the district is removing this program anyhow.
