We’re not a sports loving family but all of a sudden my son wants to watch the Commanders play this weekend. We only have streaming TV and my son hasnt figured out how to get the necessary service to watch the entire game, so I’m trying to figure it out. Can you help? Even better if we could have access to the Super Bowl. I’m willing to pay, just frustrated that I can’t figure it out. Thank you! |
I would start with a digital antenna— you should be able to get the major networks for under $40
This one is well reviewed and on sale today for $25 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074TWSQFM/?tag=the...V52VMP7ZPY4MKGXAAJY3 Otherwise you could ger a 7 day trial to fubo or something |
You could just subscribe to Fox sports app for a month then cancel. |
Are you local to DC? Does your TV have a tuner? Attach basic rabbit ears antenna, change the input so the TV displays over-the-air broadcast, scan for channels, and then tune to channel 5. |
Digital antenna/tuner just like back in the day. Will be on a local channel. |
You can probably find some YouTube videos to help you. I got a cheaper digital antenna that works well. Attach it where you would attach a cable TV cord. You probably want to locate the flat square near a window not a concrete wall. You go to the TV menu and go to settings and choose something like program channels, and it will scan through to pick up channels. It might take 12-20 minutes first time, so do it well before the game. On my TV remote, when I click on "input" it gives me TV/HDMI1/HDMI2/VCR etc, and "TV" is the free over the air channels including NBC/ABC/CBS/Fox5/PBS. |
Try this guide on how to scan for channels once you have a digital antenna. I paid about $10 for one. I'd recommend one with a longer cord so you can position it in the best place.

If you cannot initially receive the station you want, try moving the antenna a bit. TV signals are a bit directional, so if the antenna is aimed the wrong way it might be hard to receive our station.
“http://Www.AntennaWeb.org” can be helpful. Also, the farther from the broadcast antennas the weaker the signal. Most broadcast antennas are on a tower in NW DC. Easier to get a good signal from Bethesda than from Germantown. |
What streaming TV service do you have? |
Thank you so much everyone! We have Apple TV but will give the antenna a try. |
We got the antenna and got it working. Thanks for everyone’s help and go Commanders!! |
Glad it worked out— thx for reporting back |
Get rabbit ear antenna from Best Buy and hook it up. It is on over-the-air broadcast channel. It’s really not hard to do and it will cost maybe $30-40. |
Use the google to search for streameast. All sports online for free. |
Thanks. I need to get one of these too, and this thread has been helpful for me. Did you get the antenna linked above? |
