Events or meetings that start at 8pm or later on a weeknight

Can I just say no to these? I log off work at 6ish and just want to make dinner and veg for the rest of the night, wake up refreshed for work the next day. But many of my outside non work activities seem to start at 8 or later. The volunteer meeting, etc.

I know, I’m old.

I do not attend anything that late on a weeknight. Feel free to say no.

I understand how you feel. 7pm is normally PJ time for me. But once a month or so, things come up. This is life. I suck it up and go attend things so that in 20 years I'm not complaining I have no life, no friends, no hobbies, etc.

Ahahaha. Same. Remember college when unless there was a game you didn’t really go out until 10pm? I go to bed when my youngest does- 8pm unless I absolutely have to be out or special occasions/break

I prefer that they're at 8pm or so that I'm not missing dinner and time with my kids or need to work around their activities. But I wouldn't want them more than 1-2x per month.

My teen daughter is a naturally early riser and has difficulty with her youth orchestra practices, which end late at night, when she's really tired. Thankfully she's never been an athlete - I hear some sports practices end really late too.

I keep waiting for the much talked about shift in her circadian rhythm to arrive... but no. She's like her father. Up and at them at 5am, while my son and I desperately cling to our pillows until 9am

If I'm not out the door by 7:00 it becomes incredibly difficult to resist the call of my pj's.

I do not go to anything that late. All of my volunteer work is done during daylight hours.

I started doing a volunteer thing once a week from 6:45-9pm and ended up telling the org I need to leave at 8:45 and they're fine with it. I need to be in my house and decompressing at 9pm or my sleep etc. get out of whack. Plus, I wake up at 6:15-6:30 most mornings so I'm toast by 8:45. I think it's fine for you to skip them altogether.

Yep, this.

I’ll dissent. I much prefer that my social engagements start at 8 or later so I can do dinner and most of the bedtime routine with my kids, then go out. I do have younger kids though, so maybe that’s a difference that they’re down earlier?
