Field School head makes 700k. why do they need to ask for donations. I am curious what other think ehads should make. I though school were non profits so why are they getting CEO salerries?
What does other heads make? |
| You sound clueless. The job market for these roles is what it is. Would you like this school to find someone who will do it for less? |
| And the teachers are paid less than public teachers. It is expected that excellent private school teachers will work for less, because they are so excellent that they only care about the kids and their passion for education, yet the heads need to be attracted by these huge salaries? Make it make sense. |
The heads work for the board and are terminated / replaced based on performance. Don’t be so dim. |
yes i do sound clueless. the head of a school is not worth that money in any manner. dont ask alumni for money then. if that the amount they want to pay. no a alot of head would do it for less ebcasue they want whats good for the school. you guys are the one who have a weird expectation of what a SCHOOL IS. |
for some reason the have forced schools to have a corporate struture. |
| There are heads making $800K to $1M+ In dc and other major markets. That’s not about to change. And you don’t seem to understand what defines not for profit entities. |
| The heads are effectively the primary fund raisers. |
| This comes up once or twice a year on this board. Here’s from about six months ago: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1213123.page |

Public School superintendents are effectively state delegates in addition to their other duties, yet make 25-30% for far larger enrollments. Don’t act like private HOS is some uber hard, specialized job. I’ve seen the people who do it- they ain’t special, they just act like it. |
| So go to public school. If you don't like the way private schools are run and you don't like the tuition costs you can go to public school. Its called a choice. But some of us see the value. |

The best head of school I know of in the DC region gets paid less than $400K. She doesn’t cater to the uber wealthy. Instead, she’s entirely committed to the children and their education. Frankly, I don’t like her personally much myself. However she is the best, most effective administrator I’ve seen.
However most boards are comprised of the uber wealthy who want to be catered to and hire the head that does it. It doesn’t surprise me head salaries in the region are so high. Then the heads can’t leave, because it’s hard to make that salary elsewhere, so they stay, catering to the board, whether or not they like it. |

Heads of Universities make millions. Heads of large non for profits (Red Cross, United Way, American Cancer Society) make similar numbers. Joel Osteen is worth more than hundred million.
Get over it or don’t. A vow to poverty is not required to run a complicated, multi-faceted entity like a school or charity. If you don’t like it, don’t donate, don’t send your kid to a private school, don’t send your kid to a university. |
Ha. Sidwell is not Harvard or the United Way. |
