What time is the TJ test usually?

Anonymous
We have an event the same weekend as Feb 8 so trying to plan around it for later in day - based on past any clues on what time the TJ test starts and ends at? Ty in advance!

If you have a scheduling conflict, there is an alternate date. DS had a conflict and took the test on the alternator date.

Anyone has the test information email? About test place and time? Wondering why I haven't gotten the email or news about the test.

You'll receive when it's sent out. OP asked about previous years' test start times.

There is only one question covering all of math and science, while the rest of four questions are unrelated to STEM and focus on the student’s personal experiences and background. The entire admissions test is superficial and does little to assess a student’s readiness or ability in math, science and English to handle the TJ's rigorous curriculum.

Parent of a current TJ student and yes, this is generally accurate.

The have been endless debates here on DCUM about the admissions revisions.

Just know the goal of the revision was to have at least 1 student from every MS among the 5 jurisdictions (plus private schools and at least 1 homeschooler) and to include more FARMS and SPED kids. The SB also wanted greater racial diversity (TJ was 73% Asian; now 54% Asian).

And: the SB wanted to reduce the influence of one particular private test-prep company which accounted for over 30% of TJ admissions. They broke that expensive pipeline. TJ today is also 81% minority students; 19% white students.

What FCPS claims re: their revised selection process:

“The offers went to 550 students, who include students from each of the county’s middle schools, as well as Loudoun, Prince William, and Arlington counties, and the City of Falls Church, who were chosen from 2,548 applications.

Almost 12% of the successful applicants came from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. About 3% are English Language Learners.

. . . The admissions plan continued to expand access to those applicants from middle schools that have historically been underrepresented.

In the three years since FCPS initially took steps to create equitable access to TJHSST, benchmark data demonstrate that the school is more accessible to students from all backgrounds while maintaining its remarkably high standards for admission. Before 2020, when FCPS changed its admission process, TJHSST had not admitted students from every Fairfax County middle school. The Class of 2027 represents the third consecutive year that it has met this important milestone.”

Shame on you for not mentioning the racial diversity that's prominently highlighted in FCPS release. Why are you so afraid to talk about the racial progress K-12 education has made. Many of us dont care about merit as much as diversity.

Freshman parent here.
Despite all the noises and outrage here, TJ is still an awesome school, my kid literally “found his people’.
Kids there are sooo nice, so smart, awesome facility and there are so many club/activities.

Good luck to your kid!
Old admission, new admission… nothing guarantee acceptance. If your kids meant to graduate from TJ, they will!

Rank #1, rank #14, rank #287 … as long as your kid happy to where they are!

To add. People are turn this school into da*n political point, BOTH side. You know, the racist screaming racist to others.
To test or not to test, to merit or to holistic, to race to nowhere to race to the bottom…
Nothing you can do.
They both has the up and down points, just about everything in life.
Just don’t let this hysteria discourage you. TJ still a very good option.
