Website shows 4 options: monthly ($16/mo), yearly ($100/yr), bundle (subscription+books $160/yr), live online course.
If I enroll my student for the first time now, which one should I go with? Since half the academic year is done, does it make sense to pay $160/yr package? I had posted on Elementary kids thread but thought of posting here to get more insights. DC is decent at Math but loves challenges. Age group 9-10. Please advise us on what makes more sense. |
Yearly subscription starts from when you sign up. I hope this help |
Do you need the class? You might just order the books and see how it goes just reviewing it with your kid. |
BA online is 12 month access to the entire platform, which includes all of levels 1-5. Your child will want to review some of the earlier levels, since they will cover things that aren't typically covered in regular school math classes. They will be otherwise able to move at their own pace through the material.
Regarding the online class vs. just using the programs and workbooks: How self motivated and disciplined is your kid? How much do they need a structured environment where they're responsible for specific material and homework each week? How much do they need someone to guide them through the material? How much do they want a social outlet? |
Personally I would just go with the yearly without books. We didn't use the books as much as we thought we would. Don't do monthly. BA is fantastic and it shouldn't be too hard to make regular progress. |
The class is so well done and engaging. I would definitely prefer class vs books. |
If you search around you can find coupon codes that give you free extra months added to he annual subscription |
There are a couple of people always promoting this series.
It’s like their free advertising website. And I fell for it. My kids hated the books and we used brain quest and still got the kids into AAP. |
Do you work for Brain Quest? Jokes aside, I'm not one of the same two people you are referring to, but my family has genuinely enjoyed it so I like to chime in when people ask. Did your kids try BA online? My kid loves it but I admit I need to sit there with him so he doesn't get too discouraged when he makes mistakes. Also, did you buy the guide books? I don't know how any kid could hate those. They are comic format! I guess in theory some could hate BA but that seems odd to me if a kid actually enjoys math. |
Bundle is best for for DC. We do book first, then online. Started young, so plenty of time for both. |
My daughter hated the books, she said they were boring and too easy. I bought the level they recommended based on their worksheets. Beast Academy wouldn't let me upgrade our books and you have to buy the whole year at once. Ripoff. See if you can find the books used. |
Ha. No. I picked them up from Costco when they had them and it was a way better fit for them. As for beast academy- I did. But they found it derivative. Even the comics. Who knows? To each kid their own. But parents shouldn’t have to spend that much money on math worksheets. |
Agree that online is better than books, but will depend on the child.
I'd start with one month online, see how you and your child like it, and then get the full year. If you're really budget constrained I understand worrying about this, but if you're not, consider that an hour of tutoring could easily be $50-$100. Relative to that, this is almost nothing. |
The kids found it derivative? You gotta be kidding. Yes, it's a bit pricey for the books (though, comon, it's much better than standard math worksheets), but the online program is great bang-for-your-buck. Now you got me getting all defensive on behalf of BA. ![]() |
They have some placement tests so you can try to figure out the level before committing to specific books. |
