summer college tour

Do most universities offer guided campus tour during summer? I'm wondering when to take DC on college tour - during spring break or summer. Particularly interested in Brown and Harvard, if anyone knows.

Yes, they all offer tours 5, if not 6 days per week (M-Sat) in the summer. It's one of their biggest seasons for tours.

The only thing to be aware of is that some take part of August off. In my experience last summer most had tours the first two weeks in August and then took the final two weeks off and maybe the first week in September. You could call individual admissions offices to ask.

Yes. (As you may know, summer is not the optimal time because regular students are not on campus.)

Classic mistake to tour just schools where your kid likely will be rejected. Then they feel like they've failed you if they're not accepted to those places (which they can't control).

Seriously. Spend your time touring non-reach schools so she can figure out where she will be happy and go tour Harvard if she gets in.

Like how you dropped that in there.

Spring Break is better if it doesn't coincide with the college's spring break - much easier to get a handle on the vibe of the campus.

+1 seems fine to tour in summer if that's what works for you but also a total waste of time to tour highly rejective schools.

Tour the reaches only if you happen to be in the area. Don’t make a special trip to tour reaches unless it’s for ED or admitted student day

Disagree. If your kid thinks they might want to do ED to a school, they should see it beforehand. But I don't think summer tours really offer a great picture of the school when students aren't around.

Only tour schools that got accepted to. No need to tour before. Waste of time.

Yes, they have tours but know there is a lot of high school programming on campus over summer, so keep that in mind as isn’t true vibe.
