My son wants to play spring AAU.
He's in 8th grade, on a county team that plays in the B division. He is not a super star but starts and scores around 6-8 points usually. Also, he's tallish (6'0). Our org doesn't have an A team that he did not make. Obviously, he won't make the most competitive teams and I would prefer he be one of the stronger players on a team so he gets plenty of playtime as he has had friends join AAU teams and then they drive all over to games and barely play. What are some programs to target where he would make the team and get decent playtime? Thanks- |
| 6'0 in 8th grade is only "tallish"? LOL |
| OP, sorry, if this is a dumb question-he has a June birthday so he's 13 now, will be 14 in June. Would he tryout for "13u" or "14u" ? |

AAU goes by your age on August 31. So he'd be 13U for the spring season, and 14U for the fall 2025 season

| From what I've seen at AAU tournaments, they should just get rid of age "rules" altogether because no one follows them. |
Find one close to home and don't fall for the "we're playing in a really good tournament in Texas" bs. Look for a pumped up version of county basketball and play different sports. |
