Thanks for sharing OP! I immigrated to this country as a child in 1974 (flew into JFK). So cool to look back at that era!

Awww, I grew up here in NoVA and would have been three when this was filmed. Even though we lived much closer in then, I now live about two exits away from Dulles on the Toll Road. I feel like this is a hyper local look at this area’s transition between now and then. Even though my husband is a transplant, I sometimes feel that life used to be so much simpler here back then when it was “just us locals.”

Not so different! Marketing by defense contractors then, marketing by defense contractors now.

The oldest people in the clip would have been born around 1900 or the late 1890s. Really makes you think what they saw across their lifetimes.

Yeah my grandfather was born in 1920, at that point 35% of homes in the US had electricity. When he died in 2010 I had an iPhone in my pockdt.

I think my first flight from Dulles was in 1970 as my family moved overseas. Dulles was very glamorous in those days. And the people movers seemed very novel a cool. Of course they went directly to the plane then so not as dumb as today.

Not that long ago but such a different time.

This is wonderful! My mom worked at British Airways at Dulles during this time. I spent much of my childhood running up and down those halls in my pajamas.

I’d say it’s long ago. It’s 49 years.

Go back another 49 years and you’re looking at 1927.

A lot happens in 49 years in the modern era.

No one was overweight. Everyone was wearing real clothes. Not pajamas. Did they interview any black people? I have to watch again but I think not.

Quelle horreur! I'm surprised YouTube hasn't taken down the video yet.

This is an ignorant comment. I grew up flying out of Dulles in the 70s. There were always many African diplomats and their families flying into/out of Dulles. DC is a very international city.
