DD is interested in majoring in Public Policy at UVA

What are the job opportunities in this field? Are there any special steps she should take?

Is she a student already? My DS is in the Batten school and he’s loved it. He’s had three great internships and is now looking for FT. he can go in alot of directions.

The Batten school is application only in case you were t aware. Students apply in their second year. They are notorious for grade deflation which sucks but his professors have been absolutely amazing and he’s learned a ton.

House, Senate, fed or state govt departments, lobby shops, non profits, leg. affairs at a corporation, journalism. Great career with a ton of prospects.

It is a field where having good connections is very very important. Top people with gold-plates connections are very well paid, but average entry-level folks are not. Salaries have an clear bimodal distribution.

Batten is after freshman year - so when applying to UVa, which program would u pick?

I have a master's in public policy and I have worked in consulting for 20 years. I make a good income.

NP- did you work in between undergrad and grad? If so, any specific work experience that is beneficial for the grad program?

Yes, so many opportunities, especially in DC! I would think UVA would be a wonderful place to study this.

To be fair, she can go to law school from any major.
