| Anybody have great crock pot recipes to share?? |
|
This website has tons
http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/ A few we use over and over are: Peanut Butter Pork Vietemese Chicken (I make extra sauce and throw in carrots to have a full meal) Rotisserie Chicken I know there is more, but I can't think of the names. I also like to do chicken tacos: 1.5 to 2 pounds of chicken, a can of tomatoes, taco seasoning and one can of mild chili peppers. Mix and cook on low (probably best for 6 to 7 hours, but I've let it cook much longer since I'm at work). |
Disgusting! |

OP here. Thanks 12:49!
(Totally unhelpful, 12:53) |

Here's another disgusting one for 12:53, but my trashy family that is inferior to hers just loves it:
2 or 3 skinless boneless chicken breasts one can each black beans, corn one jar salsa one chipotle pepper dash of garlic powder cook on high a few hours add desired amount of cream cheese, shred chicken when ready if desired |
| i have crock pot paranoia. is really, really safe to leave them on that long? i leave the house at 8 and don't return until 6, so 10 hours. |

I got one last year from my MIL who raved about it. I was so excited for the prospect since my own mother never used one. I have tried a few different things and my husband and I get so excited about the way it smells then one bite of the meat and we want to toss is all in the trash because it tastes like the meat has been boiled. Am I doing something wrong or is this common and we just aren't used to our meat that way?
This isn't meant to be a nasty post at all I am just really curious. |
I'm not too experienced with the crock pot yet, but most things I make in it are of the stew variety, so that the meat is either shredded, or cut up with other goodies in there. The meat is very moist, even chicken breasts that have been in there for 5 or 6 hours, and it picks up the flavor of whatever you put in there with it. The only time I had a huge hunk of meat in there was with a 3 pound rump roast that I shredded into BBQ as it cooked in the sauce. It was delicious, and is a frequent request of my kids. |

I put pork loin in mine with bbq sauce, an onion, garlic, and some syrup. Makes great shredded pork for sandwiches and we can eat it for several days.
I also put Italian sausage and/or meatballs in with a jar of spaghetti sauce. |

The most delicious beef sandwiches:
Slice one or two onions into rings and put in bottom of pot. Salt and pepper a brisket (about 3 lbs I guess) and place it in pot fat side up Pour an entire bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce over it Cook on low for at least 8 hours Remove brisket and shred with two forks, ladle on sauce from the pot so it's nice and moist Take onions out with a slotted spoon on kaiser rolls, pile onions and shredded beef, top with more sauce if desired Yum!! |
| Our favorite recipe is tukey breast with a can of whole cranberry sauce and package of dry onion soup mix. Brisket can be cooked the same way or with BBQ sauce. Those two are worth the space to store the crockpot. |
It can happen. The first few recipes I tried all tasted the same. But I found with trail and error we found some we like (including the one that was calld disgusting, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me). I will say that recipes that are meant to have softer meat do better. But I've cooked a whole chicken and while the meat "fell off the bone" it didnt' get that "stewed" taste. I've read that some seasonings do well in a crockpot (get better with time). Some lose their power with time. I tend to favor the more flavorful, ethnic recipes (vietemese chicken). The other thing that can go wrong is the crockpot isn't full enough (so the stuff burns) or it cooks too hot. Then you get that burnt tasted. I have two different sizes - I most often use the smaller one. I find the cheaper ones last for about a year and then they tend to cook super hot (I think the thermometor dies). But I use ours once a week. Not sure if the more expensive ones are worth the price - they would be if they actually last. But if you are into gourmet food, then in all honesty, you might just not like crockpot cooking. My family is more into the basics and my husband loves meat that "falls off the bone." But he only likes it if it has good flavoring. |
I leave the house for 10 hours a day also. So far mine has been safe. I have one small one with no timer (so it is just on) and a larger one with a timer. The downside to the one with a timer is if there is a blip in the electricity, it turns itself off (happened twice on me now). I do plug them into a plug that has the - what do you all it - off swith if there was a sudden surge of electricity. I don't know if that actually makes it safer, but it makes me feel better). |

We frequently use the crockpot. We take chicken breasts and a jar of salsa. Cook and shred the meat toward the end. We use this with flour tortilla, lettuce, cheese and sour cream for a mexician night dinner. I also make meatballs and chili in the crockpot.
