Early Ovulation

Anonymous
Today I had an ultrasound that showed that my follicles were large for this point in my cycle (day 4). My doctor said that it looks like I would ovulate early. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this bad? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

He didn't give me the exact measurement but he said they were larger than they should be at day 4.

Is this a natural cycle? Have you done day 3 bloodwork? It is common for people with high FSH to ovulate early.
It doesn't mean that it will happen every month and it doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant if you ovulate on the early side.

It's hard to say without knowing the sizes, but it generally is not good to have them mature so early in the cycle. What was your E2? I ask b/ c is it possible they are cysts and not egg-containing follicles?

Here's something I saw on another board in response to a similar question.
Follicles greater than about 10mm at baseline (day 3-5) are indicative of development in the previous luteal phase. For reasons that aren't quite understood, this is bad, and it tends to happen with aging ovaries. One of the reasons why this isn't good may be that those maturing oocytes are exposed to too much progesterone in the luteal phase.
