Our beloved nanny of 1.5 told us that she needed to leave us due to a combination of urgent family and medical issues. She gave us about a week and a half of notice, and we are all very sad about the situation, including her.
We are of course planning on getting her a small gift of a framed photo of her with our child, but trying to figure out if we should give her a monetary gift. We don’t owe her severance and contractually are not obligated to pay out her vacation. However, I feel odd and sad about her leaving without a parting gift. What is your advice? Thank you! |
If you believe her about the reason for leaving, pay out her vacation and round up to the nearest week. |
Are you talking about accrued vacation or the total year's worth of vacation in advance? If the former, you should absolutely pay her for it. Personally, I would pay her a week's pay past her last work day since she's been a great nanny for a year and a half. |

It sounds like she has been a fantastic Nanny over the past year + a half so if you can afford to do so - it would be a generous gesture to give her a monetary goodbye gift.

At the very least pay her for her vacation! She took care of your child for 18 months giving you peace of mind that your child was safe and happy. Good lord, any decent person would give her a week's severance. You are beyond cheap and that is likely the real reason she is quitting.l |

This is an old thread, but why "of course"? Genuinely curious. Usually when you voluntarily quit/resign from a job they don't give you a payout other than accrued vacation. |
