I have 140 expiring plus points only good for a shot at upgrades on United. They expire Jan 31. Flight has to be before Feb 1. Can be used on international travel.
If I can help anyone out I am happy to use them on a reservation you already have or plan to book. |
We have thousands of them, unfortunately they are largely worthless. Very difficult to get upgrades nowadays. |
Sorry to hear. Hasn’t been my experience but appreciate the perspective. |
Depends on the flight. Depends on the day. Depends on your status. I used about 600-700 plus points last year and some have already cleared for next summer. You have to be a little strategic. But the good news is starting this year you can trade them in if you can't use them for other things. |
For American, I buy something through their shopping portal when I need to extend the life of my miles. |
For AA, you can also donate miles to a charity to extend miles |
United Plus Points are for high status frequent flyers to upgrade flights - the expiration dates cannot be extended. It is a separate system than frequent flyer miles. |
Man i fly United on the 29th, but I am flying with my kids so there are too many of us to upgrade. Thanks for the offer though. |
I don’t find that at all. We get upgraded using them all the time. Do you have global service status? |
Plus Points through United have been a joke for me. I have lost through expiration, about 10,000 plus points since the program started. I am 1k and only use the points when traveling with my family. I have a 50 percent success rate of getting my upgrades. It depends on the size of the aircraft’s first class cabin, if I am traveling out of a hub (like IAD) and when I am traveling. Going out of IAD, I am usually positioned at 2-7 on the upgrade list. If it’s a bigger first craft cabin I get the upgrades. I book first class tickets for all of my business travel, I am a high spender on United. The Plus Points program has not been a game changer for me. I look forward to getting travel credits for my unused points. |
Were the points acquired from travelling or are these credit card points you transferred over?
If they are credit card points, all you have to do is transfer over a small number of points, and your expiration date for all the points you have will be extended. I tried it with Air France but I heard it works for other airlines as well. |
Oh man I’m flying solo on united in mid February! Such a nice offer. Wish my flight were sooner. |
Do you have to be Premier Platinum or 1k to use them? I am only Premier Silver on United. I have an international flight on the 29th in Premium Plus and would love to upgrade but not sure how likely that is. |
Never mind - I just looked it up and did a miles + cash upgrade to Polaris. Only $425/person and 20k miles. Definitely worth it! But thanks for the offer, and prompting me to look it up! |
They are good for any ticket (except the basic economy ones of course). All I need is your confirmation number and last name and I can put it in. You would not want to share that publicly but if you boo add t a throwaway email I can reach out to you for that info. Note this won’t guarantee you an upgrade it just puts you higher on the list. Someone could outspent you and be higher up. But these are literally going to expire. They cannot be extended in any way. Not like typical airline miles. |
