| This year there has barely been any movement in the NWSL signings. Most of the teams are at roster limits. Are they just having major numbers at preseason and adjusting from there? There have only been a handful (at most) of actual pro signings. |
| It looks like they are just shuffling the current pros around and not adding more |
| It was a change made and requested by the players in the CBA. Draft eliminated. Gives more agency to the players |
| There are only so many teams in the league. There just aren't that many new players needed every year. The NBA has 3x the number of teams and the number of new pro players each year is very small. More signings will happen throughout the season as players are injured, cut, etc. |
| NWSL teams will just start signing GA players. |
| It makes sense. A lot of players drafted never get contracts. Even a few drafted high don't end up playing much. It is not easy to go pro. |
| But it really doesn't seem like more than 4 or 5 college women were signed to rosters. Significantly less than if there were a draft. Are the women just using an agent to pick a training camp to be invited to? |
Have they signed any GA players in the last two years? |
| There have been around 20 college players that have signed w NWSL clubs. And there will be more these coming weeks. Not all are 4th/5th year college players, but most are. |
|
Byars, Justus, McMahon, Courtnall, Lema, Reale, Dahlien, Gagne, Long, Scott, Tordin, Huff, Campbell, Mason, Shupansky, etc. Around 20 so far. There will be more. Like Armstrong.
And probably a few highschool players will go pro instead of going to college. |
| A lot of players will be going to Europe to play to include the lower divisions. |
|
definitely. not all those free agents will be re-signed or get contracts.
the number of international players will def affect the likelihood of college players going into the news. much harder these days and will continue going forward. rookies can make much more money - but it is harder to be signed. you need to basically be a star or USYNT star |
