Out of curiosity, do any schools offer travel programs as part of their curriculum? Like a semester abroad or a spring break program. I’m assuming this would only be high school, but curious about MS as well (especially if it’s a K-12 or 6-12).
We are at Bullis. They offer several optional trips in Upper School (I think only spring break but I’m not positive). In Middle School, each grade takes a trip. 6th goes to the outer banks for 4 days, 7th to the Florida keys for 5 days, and 8th to Costa Rica for a week. The MS trips are built into the tuition costs (so no extra charge) but the US trips are extra.
WES has unique school trips for all 3 years of middle school. Unique because the entire class goes, and it’s a one-of-a-kind experience. I believe 8th graders go to Italy. The other two grades have remarkable destinations as well
A number of private schools in the area partner with SYA for a junior year abroad option in France, Italy or Spain.

Following.
My private elsewhere had student exchange programs. European students stayed with US families from that school for several weeks during their Easter break. US students stayed with their European students’ families right after the US school ended in June. It would be nice if our DD could do something similar. |
Gonzaga has an exchange program- usually 3 weeks and you also host someone for about 3 weeks. Also has summer service weeks in other countries and spring break trips to other countries related to language study and religious pilgrimages.
Burke does annual multi-day trips in the middle school, which are for the full grade and tied into what they're studying. They do world language trips in the high school during the summer and those vary based on the year. Last summer, the went to Peru and the Andes.
DC went on a student exchange with SJC ( language immersion). I recall DJO had programs also.
SSFS has a week-long intersession trip for the upper school every year.
SR has an exchange program with other Sacred Heart schools worldwide.
O’Connell has a program every spring break, and a short exchange program in France and Spain. Short meaning a week or two, not a semester.
SSSAS has exchange programs with French and (I think) Taiwan schools. It also offers spring break and summer travel programs, and is a partner with the Mountain School so a semester in junior year is available through that program.
Sycamore School debuted their spring break travel option last year with a service trip to Belize and has an optional trip to Paris this spring.
I thought all private schools do this. Ours has opportunities for summer, spring and winter break starting from middle school.
Good Counsel offers both service trips (El Salvador) and spring break trips (usually Europe) during the school year.
