| What’s your favorite meal to bring to a friend who is going through a tough time? No dietary restrictions. |
| I love Smitten Kitchen’s lamb meatballs w orzo. So comforting. |
Depends on the friend and what they prefer.
| If it’s a comfort meal, I try to make something I know that particular friend loves and doesn’t make often. |
Homemade Lasagne or soup. Packaged so extra can be frozen. Good loaf of bread and dessert that can be frozen or last awhile. That’s for the neighbors and dead people.
If you know them and want to spend the day talking then a large bag of tortilla chips, guacamole, a good salsa, and Margarita fixings. Plans to order take out if you stay a long time. |
Meatloaf or lasagna, mostly because they transport well and don't lose their heat fast/can be reheated easily.
| Someone brought this to me when I was recovering and it was perfect comfort food. It also reheated well. https://smittenkitchen.com/2023/09/chicken-rice-with-buttered-onions/ |
I used to make Pot Pie
| Don't. No one wanta to eat food from your kitchen. Yuck. |
Why did you respond? How is this helpful in any way? It’s obvious op is looking for actual food suggestions and not friendship relationship advice. Op, people seem to really like soups with good bread as there’s really minimal heating/clean up. People have also appreciated fresh fruit salads. |
| I let the person choose from 3 different meals, the last chosen were homemade meatballs with spaghetti and garlicky zoodles, chicken tetrazzini, and meatloaf. People seem to like comfort food when they have a sick family member. |
| One of my favorite meals I received was provisions to keep for later--chicken salad, fruit salad, some nice bread and cookies. |
| Anything but pasta (everyone brings lasagna). I usually make a chicken stew with lots of veggies, bring some hearty bread, and fresh berries with homemade whipped cream for dessert. Stew reheats well, freezes well, always delicious. For summer, something lighter |
How is it not helpful to suggest giving someone food they prefer? If OPs friend is on a no carb diet (common), then your bread idea is not a good suggestion. Nor would it be a good idea to bring them a casserole of pasta. How is that even controversial? |
I love lamb so I’m sure I’d love this, but many many people don’t. |
