Twins turning 18 and summer trip

They will be 18 in June. They really would like to travel this summer on their own, and we'd like to give them some money towards travel as a graduation gift. We usually visit family in France and are definitely going this summer, so they could do a trip from there, by train, possibly to Italy, OR we could pay for a trip to Japan. Do you think one is better than the other, if your kids have btdt? Japan would be about 5k all in through EF or similar.

Japan. At that age and point in their lives, would be the trip of a lifetime with beautiful memories together before the next phase of life.

I absolutely love Japan but not in summer. And they’ll already be in Europe. So I’d probably just let them train travel around Europe.
