Essential Water Use alert for MoCo, so...

Anonymous
Taylor et al. - How do schools plan to handle bathroom related water needs (such as flushing toilets), water fountains, cafeteria and maintenance needs at school on Monday January 13? As a reminder, there are 211 schools in the district. Will schools need to CLOSE? Can you clarify to families ASAP!

Check WSSC website for alert that was issued today.

I’d assume business as usual, unless situation worsens. It’s a voluntary reduction. Kids washing their hands isn’t going to tip the scale. And with Noro virus spreading, not where I’d skimp. I can hold off on my laundry and a bubble bath and use paper plates.

No. It makes a difference when 160k students + 20k or so staff need to use bathroom, cafeteria workers for obvious hygiene and sanitation reasons. ALL those that care - call and leave messages or email if MCPS is not planning to address the situation.

They’re still going to use the bathroom at home. What’s the difference?

Stop trying to get another day off

You must be new here. MCPS is not going to do a darn thing, and most public institutions, local governments and businesses aren't either. This is why we might have a boil water advisory soon.

They would be using the same amount at home so I don’t see what MCPS needs to do.

NP. Schools don’t even guaranteed hand sanitizer any more. Enjoy the norovirus your kid brings home from your free daycare.

Do you or your kid live with 500 - 3600 (whatever the student pop at Blair or WJ is these days) people in a building? MoCo Health Department should be advising MCPS. This is a hygiene and sanitation issue! Duh. Getting a day off. Geez is that the only thing on your mind poster who wrote about getting a day off?!

Yep, no hand sanitizer in bathrooms either is what ES students said. Sad.

Between the ice, the cold weather, and the lack of water, it looks like MCPS will have to close tomorrow. Have they announced anything yet?

This is what was on WSSC 's website earlier. Have not checked to see if there is any update and if water conservation is still in effect.

"Until further notice, all customers are being urged to:

Use water only as necessary – i.e., take shorter showers and quickly turn off faucets immediately after use.

Limit flushing toilets (do not flush after every use).

Limit using washing machines and dishwashers."

Does this mean parents should tell their kids not to flush at school tomorrow? Make sure they poop at home, but if they can't before they leave home, to hold the shit until they return home from school. Really??

What do you mean it's a hygiene/sanitation issue? It's not like there's no water. They urged people to minimize water use where possible, but kids will still be flushing toilets, washing hands, drinking water, etc as normal. When they say "please help us conserve water by not flushing every time if you can avoid it," they don't mean in the schools!

If you read this form, kids shouldn’t use the bathrooms at the middle and high schools anyway because, drugs and vapes. But in reality they will do what they need to do. There’s still water, it’s just a matter of limiting the demand on the system.

Schools will be in session tomorrow

Hand sanitizer is ineffective against Norovirus. Unless there is no water, it shouldn’t be used in a bathroom. You need to wash your hands with soap.

WSSC just encouraged people to eg only run full loads of laundry, etc. or postpone at this stage. Kids are going to use the toilet no matter where they are. This is a silly thread until the situation worsens, which it might. Like if we have no water.

I'd rather WSSC assess the situation. It's always another, oh the DMV-can't-handle-cold-weather but after a while that excise grows old.

I mean, what do you want MCPS to do- close? Are you looking for another day to take your kids sledding or something?
