Airfrance seating policy

Hi! Has anyone flown airfrance lately? I see that there are two ticket prices. One that includes seat selection prior to checkin and the other doesn't. Has anyone purchased the light ticket? Any trouble selecting tickets with family at check-in?

In most cases it will be fine at checkin.

I have flown long haul flights with my family the past two summers and we've always been able to sti together. Pretty sure we were placed together from the beginning even.

I'm sure in most cases it will be fine. Or at least one kid with one adult even if the pairs are separated. However for peace of mind, I just pay more.

Are you ok with your family sitting separately, and all middle seats?

I’m not saying this is your intention, but PLEASE, do not buy the cheaper tickets and then assume you can ask fellow passengers to move to accommodate your family’s need to sit partly or wholly together. If you are ok with getting undesirable seats, then go the cheaper route. Or if you have one child who really should not sit separately, then pay for seat selection for them and one parent. Again, do not assume you can impose on other passengers when the time comes!

This. I buy the cheap fares now that my kids are older. If you want to sit together with smaller kids you have to buy the ticket with seat selection. Just this summer on our way back there was a family that was split up. NO ONE would switch with them since they all had middle seats not near each other. Their kids were young like 3 and 4. They had to deplane and standbys got on instead. The flight attendants were of no help trying to move passengers around.

Please only answer if you have flown airfrance and this happened to you. NOT on another airline. You can select seats at check-in 30 hours before take off. I'm seeing this same thing on virgin Atlantic.

Virgin Atlantic let us choose seats for free over the phone.

How old are your kids?

Please do not be the annoying entitled parent that chooses the cheaper ticket than does not allow for seat assignments, that then gets to the airport and the plane and demands people move so you can sit together.

If your kids MUST sit next to an adult, then buy the more expensive ticket and get seat assignments.
