Doubt FCPS would close Great Falls Elementary. More likely for FCPS to play dominoes. Boundaries have been static for Langley elementary feeders since then except for minor changes. The maps are up for Bren Mar Park and it looks like the proposal is to shift it to Key and Lewis. They will have to start 6th grade at BMP as they are currently a pre-K-5 school. Unclear how they plan to do this but BMP is under construction at the moment, so perhaps when the construction is done they will have room for a few more classrooms. This will take 344 students out of Edison and add them to Lewis.

As is usual the presentation materials are sloppy.

They claim the prior proposal to move BMP to Annandale would have created an attendance island at Holmes. That is false.

Then they state how many kids would move from Edison to Lewis but omit to state how many kids would move from Holmes to Key.

It also sucks that there is just one option. It should have been clear from the prior study people would have liked to see a proposal that kept the BMP kids west of 395 at Holmes but moved them to Annandale.

These people are so incredibly bad at their jobs. Clearly the only thing that enters their pea brains is moving kids to Key/Lewis and looking for the lowest hanging fruit.

I listened to the presentation today. The commenters and people attending at Bren Mar Park were not happy. It was pretty transparent that they were being targeted, and also pretty transparent that the goal was not just relieving capacity at Edison, but also filling up Lewis. One commenter correctly pointed out that if the capacity issue is with Edison, the solution should involve all of Edison. Not just the one school being targeted for removal. They were wondering why Franconia elementary wasn’t involved in this or why any of the West Springfield feeders weren’t being involved, so poking that hornets nest again. Some of the meeting attendees also pointed out that the commute from the Bren Mar Park area would involve driving on 395/95 or on Van Dorn right past Edison to get to Lewis.

This is a mess and the facilities guy presenting was unprepared. The answer to all the questions seemed to be “submit your feedback through the feedback form.” Also worth noting, the guy presenting and answering the questions today was Eric Gordon from facilities. However the “champion” for this project is the head of HR, a guy named Andrew Solomon.

Additionally I want to point out that they said that Nardos King 🤮 will be the “champion” for the Lorton issue.

Agree with all of this. It feels like that school is being weirdly targeted for some reason. I wonder why? Seems like a whole mess to get the kids into Lewis - need to fix the 6th grade middle school problem, some high schoolers will wave hi to Edison on their way to Lewis. Other high schoolers will have to get on 395 to get to school. It’s just one exit but that area of the highway can be a mess and you have to cross multiple lanes as soon as you get on to go south.

Weren’t the WSHS parents complaining about the commute to Lewis? At least you don’t have to get on the highway to do it. Why is Bren Mar being singled out?

Why want Franconia Elementary School an option to move to Lewis? It’s literally right there. If over crowding at Edison is an issue, why isn’t this school being considered?
