So close to drifting off to sleep, then I go back up

Anonymous
Sleep disturbances have been so frustrating lately.
I'm so close to driting then I just go back up. Happens several times. What is going on with me.

Anyone experience the same? What do you do to drift off. Thank you.

Get tested for sleep apnea. I’m serious.

Sleep study could be a good idea. But first, try a new pillow. My pillow got old and flat and this happened to me. I just needed more leverage.

Lifetime insomniac here. My first question is, since this is new to you, what is going on? Are you having health issues, are you in perimenopause (sleep disturbances are common), etc? May be worth a medical checkup.

For sleep, I've tried everything. Things that help me are make sure your physical environment is conducive to sleep. Cool temperature, good mattress and pillows, quiet, dark. Google sleep hygiene - having a routine is also important.

I use a variety of methods to help me get to sleep, with varying levels of success. My current regimen is that I wear an eye mask to block light and wear small earbuds and go to sleep listening to a sleep meditation and/or music on Insight timer. Other things I've done are using breathing methods and other strategies. I recently read about something called cognitive shuffling that I will try soon.

Trazodone is supposed to help you stay asleep, not necessarily fall asleep. What dosage are you taking?

2 tablets.
The dr said I can go up to 3. I took 3 but had the same result as 2.

It does help me fall asleep though- within 20 minutes. Then I wake up after 1-2 hours.
