Which one would you choose?
Do you have kids in both? Which do you prefer? Why? Thanks. |
| Parkland by a mile. Wood has some very serious leadership challenges. Kids seem to be able to do whatever they want. Teachers aren’t supported by the admin. There are several good teachers who have left and some very questionable ones who they know they can’t fire/transfer as it’s so hard to get positions filled. |

My kids absolutely despised Wood. They did academically well at the school but the admin team there is just horrendous. My eldest kid who went last went there in ‘20 frequently felt uncomfortable inside the school and there were a lot of fights there about once a week.
After 8th grade, we were originally planned on going to Rockville but we opted out and requested to go to another school in the DCC. |
| I don't have kids at Wood, but Parkland is great. Well run by strong admin. |
| Rockville is not a part of the DCC, nor is Wood. |

OP probably got a seat from their lottery application.
Does your kid like STEM? If not, then that might not be the choice for your kid, OP. |
| If your kid wants to do aerospace engineering, do Parkland. |
| The Rockville cluster is really hated, Geez.. |
Current Rockville HS mom….Wood really is the weak link in the cluster. |
| Parkland |
Does another middle school rather than Parkland offer STEM related programs? |
Argyle |
Same with us RM parents when we look at Julius West. |
Very true. Wood was okay for my 3 kids but definitely not stellar. Rockville High has been great. I cannot wait until my 8th grader moves on. Feels like we’ve kind of just been biding time at Wood. I have no experience with Parkland. |
| Parkland isn't just aerospace engineering, it's more of a general STEM focus. You can see the course options here https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/parklandms/news-index-new/2025-2026-course-registration/ |
