"Executive Director’s Report: DeAnna Rowe provided an update on the expansion approval and
continued efforts to move DC PCSB approved expansion request enrollment numbers as close to
the applications preferred growth model as possible. Members provided feedback on facilities
options as well as the desire to get to the preferred growth model and a potential primary model
opening as soon as FY26 if a facility can be identified."

FY26?

Come on Basis DC.

Does anyone know any more about this?

"the 5th-8 th grade science sequence changes"
Anonymous
FY26 is SY25-26 - next school year.
Anonymous
where could the building possibly be?
Anonymous
Any clue what grade they are going to start with? K? Four? All at once?
Anonymous
It seems the only chance to get into BASIS is 5th grade now. Odds is close to zero after that.

will this be true for the coming K-4th? like the only real shot is lottery for K.

There will be a transition period so you can probably get in 1-4 for a few years.

i think there may be some attrition at the elementary school level (people move away etc.) such that there will still be 5th grade spots even post-expansion

The Capitol Hill crowd are really going to miss the option to send their middle schoolers to Basis. At least the D6 will be less noisy.

How can this be for this fall? The DC lottery has already opened. I don't see any way they would be ready by the fall if they don't even have a location yet.

Because the deadline is when the lottery closes. People can edit their lists.

I do wonder if "FY" was an error and they meant "SY" aka school year, because it does seem hard to go from having no building identified to being up and running in 7-8 months.

Right, but they can add schools to the system if they want to. Personally I doubt BASIS will be able to make this happen, but for the computer system it's possible to do.

I recall a school a few years ago didn't have a firm location in time, and they were not allowed to match anyone in the initial lottery but they were allowed to have a wait-list created.

"He then asked Damon Norris whether it was possible to move forward with a primary school expansion in FY26 and DeAnna Rowe explained that even if a perfect facility is found and is within budget, the challenge the school would still face is approval from DC PCSB which would require them to expedite their timelines and processes. Staff was encouraged to do what can be done to open as soon as possible."

Sounds like BASIS DC is looking for a location and once they find they will move forward quickly.

The BASIS DC K-4 expansion is going to happen. The only questions are where the school will be and how quickly BASIS DC can open it.
