| I used to have a 2007 CRV and planning to get a Lexus NX350. When I look at the measurements, on the exterior NX is 6 inches longer, but on every other interior measure like leg space, head space, hip space, CRV had 2-3 inches more over the NX. What is causing this? |
| CRVS have gotten way bigger over the last decade. |
| Why do you think the Lexus and the CRV should be the same size? |
| Crash standards, mostly. An '07 CRV isn't exactly a tin can, but cars today are built like fortresses - huge A pillars that absorb energy in crashes, high beltlines that protect in side-impact collisions, torso, curtain, knee, shoulder, etc airbags, all of these things take up significant amounts of interior volume. |
They are both in the compact/small SUV segment designed to be comfortable for 4 and fit 5 in a pinch. The CRV was perfect size for us and thought I would upgrade to Lexus. So with Lexus being 6 inches longer, I thought the interior would be at least a tad bigger. But not, CRV had 2-3 inches more space across 4 different measures and had 60% more trunk space. That is surprising to me. |
It is caused by the fact that they are made by different companies. CRV is a Honda. Lexus is a Toyota. |
Thank you! This makes the most sense. I was thinking it was maybe all the seat warmers and what not were the main factor. |
|
Lexus also has a lot of sound-deadening material that makes it quieter and more pleasant inside than an old CRV.
And there’s an easy solution, if you want more interior space than the NX, get the RX. |
Even RX is a full 4 inches short in leg room for rear passengers compared to the much smaller Hyundai Tucson! |
Yep, this is exactly why. |
