Question about CogAT year over year

Anonymous
Question from someone less familiar with the AAP process and the CoGAT... my DD will be coming from another district to FCPS next year. She is currently in GT where we are based on her CoGAT... which was a 123, but says 94th percentile. But this was a CogAT from 2017. Is it fair to compare her scores to those being shared on the separate thread around scores... or is it different year to year? Trying to gauge what chance we have of getting her into AAP when we move! THANK you!

I would imagine it has less to do with year-over-year than what specific elementary and pyramid you wind up in. If you read the posts in this forum you will get an idea of the variability across schools. Her score may be good for where she is but not great for some schools here. But remember they are deemphasizing test scores so it's also important to consider report cards, knowledge tests, etc. I'm sure someone else has a better answer though.

Sorry if I’m being obtuse, but are you saying your DD took the CogAT in 2017?

I was wondering the same thing. If the kid took it in kindergarten at age 6, they would be 13 now, right? That’s not elementary school.

Exactly. Seems like this child would have aged out of AAP if they took it in 2017.

I think the OP is probably asking about the norming year, as taking it in 2017 doesn't make much sense timeline wise. I believe 2017 is still the most recent norming year, at least it's still the norming year that the cogat for fcps used this year.

Norms aren't typically designed to updated every year. Though, for example, iready renormed their diagnostics this year due to the considerable (nationwide) downward shift in recent years.
