We don't need any structural changes, we just need to screen it in by adding about 30 linear feet of screens and one or two screen doors. Roughly how much should we expect this to cost in its cheapest version? And how much would it raise the cost to do things like half-walls or other upgrades (and are they worth it)?
Should we look for a contractor (what kind?) or just a handyman? (Or I hear that some people DIY it... we are like a 2 out of 10 on the handiness scale so I'm guessing this is beyond us, but let me know if I'm wrong and it's actually super easy.) Thanks! |
| If it needs a roof, the footers will need to be changed- you can't just screen in a patio. |
|
Sounds like it already has a roof? In that case you are looking at trim and supports plus framing for the doors, etc.
If you want it to look janky you could do it yourself. I personally would hire a handyman/contractor. No idea on cost but don't be cheap on thisl |
| It already has a roof and supports and oesn't need any changes to those. Everything structural already exists and does not need to be improved. It just has open sides currently and needs screens added to keep the bugs out. |
| Don't DIY - you'll never get around to it and regret halfway you didn't hire someone. A handy man for this job should do it. |
| You’ll definitely need a better support system than the basic deck support system. You need to look into a good contractor. |
| Also don’t forget to screen under the flooring if it’s a deck |
It's not a deck, it's completely structurally capable of supporting what it needs to support, just trust me on this one, please? Has anyone done a just-screening-it-in project like this who can give a ballpark sense of how much it should cost? |
| Bump. Considering a similar project |
I'd definitely do a half wall 4ft high with rail, and screen the top part. You likely wouldn't like the entire thing screened all the way to the deck flooring. Guessing that framing up doors and half wall and adding beadboard or similar siding would be beyond a 2/10 skill level so you are looking at $100 linear ft in parts and equal labor, so around $6000 total, plus whatever the screen doors cost as that can vary from cheap custom built to fancy. |
| To actually answer OP's question - Long Fence does this type of work. As does Patio Enclosures. It will be a lot cheaper since you already have the structure in place and they only have to build the side supports. |
We just did it and it was $5k |
| I was told they've have to take up the flooring to put screen under the porch, otherwise mosquitos would just come in from under the deck. |
| Screenmobile of Alexandria! They solved this exact problem for me and will travel to Maryland. The price for ours was 1/3 of a general contractor and we installed the dog proof screen across the entire opening without any dividers. It’s made of metal and screen. |
