We plan to take off 8/9 to 8/22, and we plan to go somewhere with DD6 and DS10. What would you suggest us to go from dmv area? There is no budget, and below places are on our list to travel one day, like Disney in FL, Vancouver and Toronto. I kind of wanting to go to japan because I know kids cannot put up with long flights and jetlag. DH does not want to travel to Europe since he hears some stories and concern about theft/safety, but I know UK, ireland, italy and France are on his list. Hawaii is too long flight. We don't want cruises this summer. |
August is too hot for Japan. Also too hot for Disney unless you go to California.
Europe is safer than many parts of the US. |
Toronto is great in August, we did a road trip there a few summers ago when our son was 10 and loved it |
Iceland |
For 2 weeks? |
Yes! The whole ring road, westfjords and/or highlands. It’s amazing…we did this in 2023 |
With 2 weeks, no budget and young kids in August, I would do the following:
Norway, Sweden, Finland or… Uk/Ireland or… Denmark/Germany/Benelux countries Basically, Northern Europe. |
Agree. We had 10 days and I wish we had more. Loved it and we only saw the highlights. |
Vancouver and Vancouver Island- |
Maine? Maritimes Canada? Niagara Falls and on into Ontario? Grand Canyon? San Diego? |
When my kids were that age, we did a wonderful 10 day trip of the national parks in Utah, and it would have been even better with two weeks. |
Not in August! |
Alaska! |
+1. We went to Alaska with our kids last year and it was great. We had a budget though and only 10 days to work with so we spent a few days in Seattle then did a 1 week cruise. With more money and time, I'd do a one way cruise and then tour around Alaska or spend some time exploring Seattle to Vancouver and then take a cruise. |
Kids are 6 and 10. They will be fine with flights and jet lag. Kid adjust faster than the adults. We flew Asia with kids those ages and younger.
