| We just got our basement bathroom remodeled in our 1960’s build that included replacing tub with a shower. The night they finished the work one of the pipes (in a different part of the basement) started leaking! We called the contractor who had to rip the ceiling and find the leak in a different section of the basement. The pipe was old and corroded but I feel like the contractor must have done something to cause it. My husband thinks it was bound to happen and the work and drilling etc might have dislodged the pipe. Am I right or this was a bizarre coincidence like my husband suggested. The contractors response was it’s due to an old pipes. |
| Your husband is likely correct. The josling required to the system to do any plumbing work sometimes causes ancillary issues with old pipes. VERY common and not the plumber’s fault. |
| Yeah I don't think you can pin this on the contractor. You said yourself the pipe was "old and corroded". |
+1. BTDT unfortunately. |
| We had a disastrous water issue just as a major 6 month renovation project wrapped up. I heard from a lot of people that this is not uncommon - in our case some negligence was involved, but the reality is that once you start doing work on an old house, it sometimes unravels the old systems. |

Yes, the remodel caused it, no, it's not the plumber's fault.
It was going to fail soon anyway. |
| Thanks everyone (my husband was happy to hear this) and as much as it hurts financially at least it’s justified. |
