Currently reading Soldiers and Kings: Hope and Survival in the World of Human Smuggling and wrapping up Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives. I loved books like A Little Life and Wave.
What books do you like in this vein? |
|
I thought your title meant the physical book weighed a lot. I was going to suggest a Kindle!
|
|
Wave was gut wrenching. I still think of that book.
Another one that comes to mind is Did You Ever Have A Family. |
|
The Burning. I was compelled to turn the pages. But I hated it. This is in contrast to A Little Life which ripped my heart out but I also didn't want it to end.
If you try The Burning, I'd be curious what you think. I haven't seen any discussion on the book. |
|
Memoirs: The Glass Castle, Angela's Ashes
Fiction: The Kite Runner, Maus |
| None, I would avoid all books "in that vein" because I am a lightweight and I just can't handle it. |
| Prophet Song by Paul Lynch |
What author for The Burning? I see a few different books with that title. |
| Man's Search for Meaning by Victor Frankl. |

|
The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois
The Yellow Wife Homegoing |
|
Heavy fiction?
Galveston by Nic Pizzolatto (writer of True Detective) |
|
Thanks for the recs. Of those suggested so far I have already read Have already read The Glass Castle, Homegoing and Kite Runner
Have on my shelf but haven't read yet: The Love Songs of W.E.B. DuBois Angela's Ashes Maus Going to look into: Did You Ever Have a Family The Yellow Wife The Burning Man's Search for Meaning Prophet Song Galveston Keep the recs coming! |
Just to warn you, I recommended Galveston. It is very violent and dark. And I would skip Angela's Ashes it is relentlessly miserable and overly long. |
| The Fault in Our Stars....You may have already read it. But it is such a tear jerker! |
