Health withdrawal from classes - transcript impact?

| If a health condition causes a high school student to withdraw from classes or from school entirely—after the 25 school-day limit—what is the impact on their transcript? DD is extremely concerned about the effect of her current grades on college (i.e. the grades she's about to get when the quarter ends in two weeks). Frankly, we made a mistake: she would have been justified in withdrawing weeks ago, but she really wanted to hang in there, and we let her. |

The withdrawal would be reflected on the transcript, unless the course is retaken in which case the new grade will be reflected. However, at this point DD should just finish the course, earn the credit, and then retake the course to improve the grade if it really matters. In the big picture, a single poor grade in a class that turned out to be too challenging isn't a huge deal-breaker for college applications, especially if there is some health issue going on. The health issue would be explained in the counselor's letter and what would be more important is how your DD bounces back after this. |

| I should add - if the health issue is so severe that your DD would withdraw from school for a while, then you have a bigger issue than a single grade in one class. |

| University professor who reviews applications---if your DC can explain what happened and how they will grow from it, many application reviewers will be understanding. Provided that DC is a strong applicant overall. |

With an IEP my son got the grade he earned and then had to do credit recovery to replace the grade. |
