Meal Delivery Service (very specific circumstances)

Family of 4, DH cannot cook (literally, due to a disability) and one child off at college who won't be home often.

I have a very particular food plan so I cook for myself every night. Daughter living at home has Autism and is an extremely picky eater so she doesn't like to eat what I eat. I don't have the time or the patience to make two dinners every night that my DD often rejects and my DH has to reheat becuase he gets home later than he expected. DD is getting motivated to expand her pallate and working with a dietician on exposures to foods she's adverse to (mostly fruits and vegetables). She will eat or at least try most proteins and starches.

The idea is I'd like to get a meal delivery service so I can make one meal for myself most nights and DH and DD can just heat and eat somethign they are happy with. Incedible bonus if I can find lunches DD can take to school too (she's in high school and eats mac n cheese every day).

Can anyone who has tried a bunch of them tell me which is the best quality and has the most variety? I think I'd prefer heat and eat as opposed to any prep necessary. DD And DH can do minimal prep, but DH gets home late and DD has a lot of executive funtioning challenges. So, heat and eat - if good, and healthy, would be a lifesaver!

I saw this but it wasn’t clear to me if you are looking for meals for yourself, for your DH and DD, for all 3 of you, or even possibly all 4 since you mention your other child. You said heat and eat which would make me think for DD/DH but then you also said wide variety yet there are picky eaters.

I don’t have much helpful to offer unfortunately since have done several of the meal prep or meal kits - not heat and eat. I know of Schwan’s but have never used them. However maybe others will chime in.

We’ve used Factor for my parents and they have lots of options.

Is your food plan a medical necessity? If not, I'd order my food as an adult, and make the healthy homemade food for the person who is still growing.

If your plan is medically necessary, it would help to know what your kid will eat.

My food plan is medically necessary.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I’m looking for meals for DH and DD on weekdays. My kid is almost 17 and I’ve been cooking for her daily since she was born.

She can’t make her own meals and we get into battles about what she’ll eat - and she doesn’t like what I cook.

She’ll eat any meat protein, fish and eggs, not a lot of sauces, no fruit, she’s trying to branch out to more vegetables. She’ll eat most grains but prefers pasta.

She can’t make her own meals and we get into battles about what she’ll eat - and she doesn’t like what I cook.

She’ll eat any meat protein, fish and eggs, not a lot of sauces, no fruit, she’s trying to branch out to more vegetables. She’ll eat most grains but prefers pasta.


This sounds pretty easy to accommodate her while still making what you want. Grill several chicken breasts at a time, make pot of rice, or quinoa, or farro.. just always have proteins and grains on hand for her

Maybe try Mighty Meals - they offer bulk protein and carb options in addition to individual meals. Food is very decent.

Can you try to build two meals with some common elements? Say your daughter and husband can eat plain pasta, ground beef and spinach. Can you take the rest of the spinach and beef, add spices and sauce, and eat them with a bowl of buckwheat?

My husband's relative is a single mother and cooks for the week on Sundays. She puts everything in boxes in the fridge, labeled and categorized according to grain, protein or veggy. Her teens mix and match what they want from these boxes to make their meals. Everyone has different sauces, or sometimes there's a little flavoring already there in the different foods.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I’m really only looking for meal delivery services right now. For at least 10 years, I have tried EVERYTHING- and my DD complains every meal, I get resentful, and I’m just plain tired. This is an area I’ve decided I need to let go of and try something completely different.
