my 59-year-old skin needs your help

Anonymous

Hi everyone, I need your advice!

I’ve just turned 59, and while I’ve been lucky with good genes and decent skin so far, I’m starting to notice more lines, especially on my forehead and neck, and it’s driving me crazy. I’ll admit, I wasn’t always diligent about skincare or sun protection, but in recent years I’ve taken it more seriously.

Here’s where I need help: I’ve never done any kind of procedure—nothing at all—and now I feel completely overwhelmed by all the options out there. I have appointments with two dermatologists in March (they came highly recommended, but they have long waitlists), and I want to go in with some idea of what to ask for or consider.

For someone in their late 50s who’s new to all this, what procedures or treatments would you recommend starting with? I want to keep things subtle and natural—nothing too extreme. If you’ve tried anything that worked well for you, I’d love to hear your experiences and advice!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts—I really appreciate it!

Start with laser, then use tretinoin and sunscreen. Sounds like you don't need anything else.

np what does "start with laser" actually mean?

Everyone should be using sunscreen and tretinoin. The big ones for the 50s are lasers, eyes and neck/ facelift. I’m sure you think they are extreme but it is what works at that age.

Why not a full face and neck lift? I’m 46 but I am planning on having one around 52/53…

You are 60 basically. That’s not a bad thing. 60-year olds should have some lines.

Tretinoin and a little Botox.
I had halo laser and wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t have a lot of sun spots, so didn’t see a lot of difference. Sure seemed more invasive than I’d expected
