The doc just confirmed that my 6 yr has undescended testicles. Does anyone have a good pediatric surgeon to recommend for a surgery like this? I would appreciate any information you can share. Thank you!!! |
Did the PCP not have a rec? I would contact Children's National Hospital for direction on this. |
+ for the urology department at Children’s |
Can they watch and wait? That was the protocol a few years ago for my kid and they came down at 10 wirh puberty |
Dr. Dicarlo - Brady urological institute at Johns Hopkins. She can also recommend someone who works out of Sibley. |
Thank you very much for sharing this. I will ask my doctor about this protocol. I really don't want him to have a surgery at such a young age unless it is absolutely necessary. |
thank you! |
My son had this surgery as a toddler. You need a urologist for this, not a general surgeon. We went to Dr. Hans Pohl at Children’s National (surgery was done at Inova FFX). I’m a nurse anesthetist and work with a lot of (adult) urologists — that’s who they recommended. |
A friend of mine's husband had this issue as a child. His doctor told his parents to watch and wait. I think he eventually had surgery at 12. He is sterile, which can happen if you watch and wait. They had to do IVF to have kids. She told all of us to have our kids get the surgery if our sons had this issue. |
CHildrens Hospital! I forgot her name in pediatric urology, but she was excellent and caring when our son needed emergeency testicular surgery due to torsion. |
Our son had this procedure at 10 months old. If you watch and wait, you risk them not being able to have children. If the surgery is recommended, you should do it ASAP. |
