Anyone have an in-state student who applied to JMU but was rejected in past (I know this year's decisions aren't out, yet)? Wondering what stats/profiles get rejected because it's the only school in my senior's basket. While that makes me nervous, they seem to take it for granted they will get in. But our local school district data indicates almost half who applied last year did not get accepted.

My friend’s son was rejected instate. I don’t know his exact stats but I do know he didnt have any APs and only 1 honors in history. I believe he had a weighted gpa in the low 3s like 3.3.
He is happily at GMU now. |
Explain why any rational student would do this. |
Agree. If you're applying to JMU might as well shoot your shot to VT and try and get into the t75. |
| It’s a great school. Would all the bashers and unhelpful people just start a new, whiny thread about how you’re better than everyone else so as to not distract from the conversation here? |
How is it great? 1240 median 26% submitting... |
| Numbers don't lie |
| JMU is not in the Forbes t100... |
NP. College choice is about the best fit for a particular student. Fit has many non-numeric parameters. |
Wasn't aware SAT determined quality of education or job placement. |
| Your DC needs to apply to one other definite safety in VA OP. Just in case. |
| Might as well apply to UVA |
| FWIW, my former TA from an Ivy teachers there. I remember him as being a good teacher with high expectations. |
For anyone to think this could be useful information shows how truly clueless the status chasers are. |
+1 Who cares if the professors went to ivies. Everyone has to work somewhere. |
