Donating Artificial Christmas Trees

Anonymous
We bought a new artificial Christmas tree in an after-Christmas sale. So now we need to get rid of our older artificial Christmas tree. It's still in okay shape so I wanted to see if I could donate it someplace instead of throwing it away.

If you are willing to hold on to it until next year, thrift stores can sell them before the holidays.
After the holidays, stores have a hard time selling them and they end up in the trash.

You can try Buy Nothing or Freecycle, but a tree in "okay" condition may not be something people take and are willing to store.

I’m certain that Unique or Savers would take this.

I'd try your Buy Nothing or Freecycle groups. People in big houses (not me) often have multiple trees up in the house, I know somebody with a dozen.

goodwill or salvation army will take it

PP and I know that even the tiny thrift stores have storage for seasonal items. No need to keep at your own house for an entire year.

My favorite thrift store does a Christmas in July sale.

A local private school will probably take it. I work at a private school and we love donated Christmas trees/ornaments etc. We don’t have the budget to purchase it.

When I was in this situation, I held on to it until November and then listed it on Buy Nothing. It was snapped up immediately. Agree with PP who said it’s best if you can wait until next year.

Just toss it because nobody wants an artificial tree in "okay' condition!

thats bs and totally wasteful and why landfills are full and we're burning our trash and then breathing all the toxins in.

Sorry what’s wasteful? We switched to real trees but didn’t want to put the old artificial one (used for 12+ years) in the trash. And it was already a hand-me-down when I got it!
