DS is already on a winter and summer club team. The positions are switched out except for goalie who plays exclusively. This is 33 team. We have a kid who has played goalie for winter and spring, 16 kids total on the team.
He has started playing the position in his rec team in November and will play in rec through spring and does want to play for a club team. They are obviously so young most of the kids are at a similar level of skill. What’s the proper etiquette in a situation like this. Should he find a different club that has an “opening” to play the position for summer? |
| I'd just ask your current club coach if he will give him a fair shot at goalie. Most clubs want two goalies and split the playing time 50/50. |
In this particular club each team has about 15 kids and only 1 goalie for each grade. I’ve noticed that for 32 and 31 also. What’s the number of kids and number of kids playing goalie for your kids’s club teams? |
| healthy club is 22 on roster with 2 goalies splitting playing time evenly |
Oh really? Even for a 33 team with less kids on the field? |
Do your goalies each play for 50% of time and specialize for 33 or do they typically play goalie then switch out into other positions during the other half? |
| Thanks PP, this is helpful. My son is young and in elementary school so we only know what we know. We have only played for the club that is a feeder from his rec team. They did an invite system for about half the kids so we haven't looked into other club programs at all and see no need at this age. I don't see a huge difference in skill level yet as I said. There are obviously a few standouts but most kids to be about the same in the '33 group. |
