| Please recommend a psychiatrist that is in network with CareFirst BCBS and had experience with medicating Inattentive ADHD. We are located in NW DC but close by Md and Va are fine too. We spent $14K on out of network therapies this past year so it would be very helpful to find an in network psychiatrist for adhd medication. I would prefer not to use the pediatrician. Thank you for any recommendations. |

| Any experience with Dr Driver at Healthy Foundations Group? |
| Good luck - was in a similar situation and only found pediatrician or out of network psychiatrist. I am told you can get a nurse practitioner to prescribe that is cheaper. |

I know I’ve mentioned this before but we found a great pediatric psychiatrist that is in network through talkiatry. We see her online as permitted under federal law that was just extended. Our pediatrician recommended we try talkiatry when our needs became more complicated.
We needed to explore alternative approaches when our regular med was hard to get and she was amazing and thoughtful throughout the process. I understand online visits might not be ideal for the youngest kids, but if you have a kid that is a bit older it could be a good, lower cost option. |

We use talkiatry for our GAD teen (already diagnosed for years, wanted to try meds). Went with Blackbird health NP for an ADHD diagnosis for another teen.
Telehealth is basically the way to go for anything now as long as they are old enough to manage online visits. FWIW my 6 year old does online speech therapy. |
What did you think of the diagnostic process with Blackbird. We are doing intake for my ES student tomorrow and I’m a little worried that it will work for us. |

We had 3 meetings and I did 2 of them with ADHD kid. The second one she did with dad. You should expect to be at these meetings - they are not therapy.
They are a bit slow with follow up but overall we did 3 meetings (copay for each) and have an ASD evaluation scheduled for end of march ($600). This seems fast and cheap compared to what I've heard elsewhere. I do have a diagnosis letter in hand already with the adhd after a month or so of first contact (maybe 6 weeks). I think that's pretty good. I had to ask for the letter [we need it for a 504 - and I know we do not need a diagnosis but our school wanted one and this was easier than an appeal]. We are waiting also on scheduling an OT. We filled out the parent Vanderbilt scale and declined to have her teachers fill one out too. We did not think that was useful for a 16 year old in many ways. I would absolutely involve the school in this. I have a lot of gripes with 504 process in high school for FCPS (maybe just our school). I'm hoping an actual diagnosis helps. We haven't done any meds, they want to think about my child's sensory issues with an OT before anything further. We're fine with that for now. |

BTW, maybe to make it explicit too, they were happy to conclude adhd with available evidence but also want to include diagnostics for other things that take more time, so it can take more time all together than a one shot.

| Just a plug to also consider a Psych Nurse Practitioner, they might be easier to find than an MD and better specialized than a Ped. We've had tremendous luck with them (but different insurance) |
| I am blackbird pp. the provider we saw is a psych np. |
| Bump. Also interested in this response. |
| Try Bloom Health Centers. They have lots of providers and lots of locations in Maryland and Virginia. |
| We've had good experiences with Bloom Health although my kid has ADHD combined and anxiety. We're in Moco, dr. is physically located in Arlington, so we've only seen him once in person and online the rest of the time. |
