How have you had success in deciding on joint travel?

We've decided on a trip, any time over a summer, cruise to a destination. Several families will go, each paying their own way.

This seems easy as everyone will be booking their own cruise, we have the destination and it can be any time that summer.

But, still decision to be made as to which cruise/sailing and some tradeoffs there. How have people decided something like this?

someone took initiative to come up with 4 choices and then presented them--ports, dates, cruiselines. If anyone is a previous cruiser they may wish to stay on the same line so that would make it easier to narrow down.

Groups are tough, especially as it gets bigger.

Not cruises, but I usually make the arrangements when we travel with friends. I do the work and thus get the benefit of controlling 80% of the decisions.

Usually one person just chooses and the others decide to go or not go.

This. We do a big group trip every other year. Someone decides on the destination and a general time frame. We throw out dates and majority rules. If you want to book you can book, if not , no big deal. We've all been friends for ages and know each other's tastes and finances so it makes it pretty easy.

This - if you make the arrangements, you can control most everything about the timing and itinerary. Too many cooks in the kitchen results in bad trips.
