I personally loathe using Uber for trips to/from the airport. We are about 30 minutes from the airport, but I swear it takes so much longer with the Uber driver.
I’m really debating spending the, for us, $95 more it would cost to park our car at the airport (based on the average cost of our last few airport round trip rides.) On our last airport pickup, it took 20 minutes for the driver to get to us, and the whole time I thought, had we just parked here, we’d almost be home. Last night we had Mexican food for dinner and spend $80 and I thought, yes, I’d give up one Mexican dinner to not have to screw with Uber on our upcoming trip. Anyone else feel this way? |
Depends what time I’m getting home, if it’s late yes if it’s mid day probably not |
I find Uber much faster and convenient than parking, but you do you.
You can order Uber in advance for a specific time. That might reduce waiting. |
Yes. I think Uber in these instances, has lost its luster. I don’t mind it so much at the beginning of a trip, but after a week away, I just want to not have to do anything. I don’t want to have to mess around securing an Uber, waiting and watching for Bob in his silver Camry, I don’t want to have to make small talk with him, or optionally, awkwardly ignore him. I want to walk to my car, crank some tunes of my choice, and take myself home. So yes, I’d also pay $95 for that peace. |
how long are you gone for? We usually park because it is a wash and we are 25 minutes from Dulles. I haven’t flown out of National in ages. |
Thats hard to estimate - flights are early or late and if you have luggage is always dicey. |
At the airport? How do you know what sort of delays you’ll encounter? It’s not feasible at the airport to order a ride in advance. I’d feel like I was adding to my frustration if, say, we sat on the taxiway waiting for a gate to open, and I knew I had to rush to my soon-to-be-arriving Uber. Just no. I’m stressed by the thought. |
I always park at the airport if I’m going to be gone less than a week, but I can afford it and I get carsick in Ubers. I also hail from a “no rides to the airport” family. |
Okay it’s been a long time, admittedly, but don’t they still have a cab stand at the airport? I get taking an uber to the airport but why not a cab back. |
They cost more and you still have to deal with someone else’s driving and conversation. |
I have used the same car service company for transportation to and from the airport for nearly 30 years. They are always there. It’s worth every penny. |
DC area? Not worth parking. It's nice to have the flexibility of flying into the other airports if something gets delayed/cancelled. |
I’ve been doing this on the way back and it’s been fine. No need to chat. |
We are 20 min from IAD and it usually makes sense for us to get taxi to and from airport. It’s usually $44 each way. Saves us time and usually money. |
We have found that our of DCA, into DC that cabs are around the same price and easier than Uber. |
