Do we think selective colleges will admit more domestic students this year given the hoopla over international visas and incoming Trump admin?
What other trends are you seeing? Besides more tests… Which selective schools are using AI? |
| I’m thinking more US kids will be looking at attending school outside US. An opportunity to get a new perspective on how to live. I’m not sure many will actually commit to going outside US, but —why not apply, and see what comes of it? oTOH, many may be itching for a change of scenery a few months from now. |
Whether they commit might have a lot to do with how strong the US dollar is relative to the local currency. |
and the fact that college admissions here for the top are like a lottery and opaque, and the lower ones are not worth the $$$$ for 4 years. In state flagship being an exception. |
| People don’t realize this but Trump has proposed making any foreign graduate of a U.S. college a citizen. Should only increase demand from abroad. |
| NO no way. Colleges will not be impacted by the administration changes. |
Only MAGA don't realize this. I've been posting about this on the hlb threads. He said this *before* the election. MAGA have selective hearing. |
all of the colleges are telling kids to come back early (before Jan 20)....they don't know how hard it will be to get kids back from certain spots (thinking middle east, africa, parts of asia). Im not sure its so clear-cut. |
Hard to argue MAGA isn’t listening to Trump but non-MAGA is. |
I’ll believe it when I see it. A close friend of my teen is hoping to attend college here and this is a major incentive. I hope, for his sake, that it comes to fruition. (and i am as anti-orange as they come) |
| Affordability seems to be a big issue. People seem to be chasing merit more. |

What?! |
As they should. Dumb to pay 2x for a similar product, unless you are pretty rich and can afford luxury items. |
