I'm avoiding Baker Creek Seeds/RareSeeds.com

Anonymous
I usually get my seeds from Johnny's or Experimental Farm Network. I was really excited when, unsolicited, I received a thick, gorgeous heirloom seed catalog from Baker Creek Seeds. I was impressed! Maybe you got a catalog, too. Unfortunately, after looking a little deeper, I will not be ordering seeds from them as I chose not to support such an unethical business. Not only do they willfully deny the indiginous origins of some of their products, they invited figures such as Cliven Bundy and RFK, Jr. as keynote speakers to their festivals.

Since I DO have a choice when it comes to seeds, I choose to take my business elsewhere. It's unfortunate there's a growing overlap with those not-so-fringe-anymore groups and gardening/farming.

How exactly does a seed have an indigenous origin?

What does this even mean?

I thought you were going to say "not order from them because there are better regional alternatives, where the seeds bought are more likely to fit the space and thrive like Southern Exposure Seed Exchange" But the reasons you give? Not a concern for me. Sorry.

Baker creek rare seeds has the best seeds! I have never had a problem with germination with their seeds. I have been buying seeds from them for 6years and will continue to do so.

lol. “Farming” has gotten a lot more lefty, you mean. As a sixth gen farmer myself, I am fascinated by the hippie invasion but y’all usually get tired of the work soon and go back where you came from.

I ordered 2 kinds of Zucchinis and 1 okra. As far as productivity is concerned, on a scale of 1 to 5 I would rate them all a 0. I will Not order from BK again!
