I am contemplating a quick family getaway for PResidents' Day Weekend. My first choice is Florida, specifically, Fort Lauderdale or Jacksonville (family nearby). How crazy is this idea? I checked flights and hotel packages on Southwest and looks like a two day trip will cost about $3000 for a family of four.
I am desperate to go someplace warm, particularly because I am stick at home this week. However, is this just a stupid idea? I would be open to other warm weather suggestions that are lower cost. |
FLL for sure. Jax’s climate is more like South Carolina than South Florida. |
It’s not warm in JAX in Feb!! |
OP here- what about Fort Myers? |
How warm are you looking for it to be – like get in the ocean warm or no need for jackets warm? My family lives in Naples and it’s in the low-mid 70s in February which is lovely compared to here but a little too cold for me personally to get in the ocean with 65 water temps. If you’re at a place with the heated pool, that would work great. |
Jacksonville probably won't be warm enough for you, although going to St Augustine for a weekend sounds lovely. If it's warmth you're after, definitely FLL or Ft Myers. It's probably going to be in the 70s but even that will feel amazing.
The Ft Myers airport is very easy to navigate, rental cars are a short walk from the terminal, etc. But it's also usually more expensive than FLL. |
+1 to everything you say here. |
OP here- booked a FLL trip. Thanks for everyone's advice. It's more than what I would normally feel comfortable spending for a weekend but under 3K. But still will be amazing to get away and we are so tired of sitting at home! |
