We have a significant anniversary on March 8 (20 years with my husband), and because it comes right in between a few other vacations/ birthdays, we unfortunately are limited to just that weekend. First we thought to just do local fancy B &B.. but now thinking about a romantic 3 hours or less flight getaway from DC for 2 nights. I would think something south from us for warmth, but open for any ideas. Budget for direct flight, 2 nights and some fancier restaurants and experiences $3k if possible, or less 😊 |
I would look at Miami/south beach or Ft. Lauderdale.
St Regis Bahia beach or w Ft. Lauderdale or ritz Carlton key biscayne or south beach. Or on the west side of FL, JW Marco island, or ritz Carlton Naples. Or fly into Jacksonville and go to Ritz Carlton Amelia island. |
There’s also a new st Regis longboat key but it will be more than $3k for the weekend. |
Agree with Miami- SoBe
Hotels to consider .. Faena Hotel Miami Beach and 1 Hotel |
Yep, was coming here to say what others said: Miami. |
When figuring this out —drive vs fly -/ remember to consider time in airports, etc. A three hour flight is more like 6 hours of travel time. |
For 2 nights I’d skip the flight and spend the money on a nicer hotel instead. |
Charleston |
For me flying is not much fun. We just had a 12 hour delay. It happens. I think for a weekend I’d feel like my time would be better spent on a lovely hotel or bnb nearer home. Even a splurge hotel in downtown DC could be a blast. |
Inn at Perry Cabin
Inn at Little Washington |
It really depends on how you want to spend your time, but for that short timeframe I am team local. You can stay in a really nice hotel in Virginia wine country, hire a driver, eat at Inn at Little Washington, do a nice hike (weather dependent), visit a spa, and not have to worry about flight delays.
If you are hell bent on flying, I would do Charleston or New Orleans, but I'm biased against Florida because I'm not a beach person and don't love Miami. Interesting sights and great food are my priorities. |
Op here. We did Little Inn about 2 years ago with dinner. We booked BNB in Paris, VA, we really liked the room, location and restaurant there, but it would be our 3 Rd time.. I am also thinking flying even short may be a bit of overkill for 2 nights... But want something we can remember.. maybe some local BNB similar to coziness of Ashby Inn with Tina to do prior dinner and room time? Open for hiking, museums, some nature walks, local experiences |
OP. We also were thinking New Orleans, but this world be 3 nights probably, is it worth it flying there and making special? Not really crazy about jazz, but I heard even if you are not jazz fan, it is still great experience |
Keswick Hall is in Charlottesville. You could do some hiking, spa, relaxing, etc. It’s less than 2 hours.
