How does this keep happening? How do they get past TSA then gate check in?

The last few flights I've taken (to Florida out of DCA a couple weeks ago, and to Dublin out of IAD in early November) TSA didn't check my boarding pass. Just my ID.

That's because they have a database with ticketed people that day- when the machine scans your ID or face it confirms with the database.

It doesn't "keep happening". Read the article. It explains how she did it. One person. Now in jail. Stop wasting everyone's times posting exaggerated claims when you haven't even read the article

It doesn’t sound like she used it, but Seattle allows. Certain number of non ticketed people to go through TSA every day to shop or use the restaurants.

It doesn't really say how she did it. I always get my boarding pass scanned when getting on the plane, so how did she get on without one?

An earlier-story said that the stowaway snapped a picture of a kids boarding pass quickly. He then boarded the plane before the kid, so it scanned. The kids then errored (properly because it had already been scanned). But the agent figured the system might be acting up and didn't want to slow things down, so she let the family.board. The stowaway then hid in the bathroom because all the seats were full and was discovered before takeoff.

I thought TSA had a database to look up your name based on your ID and see that you have a ticket. That’s what I assumed because they don’t check for a boarding pass anymore at security.

They do- that's why you have to provide name and DOB at the time of booking. All that passenger data goes to DHS/TSA/CBP. Also why when you arrive back in the US if you use a kiosk for passport control, once it scans your face or passport, it pops up with the flight you arrived on
