What is causing the poor air quality and smog right now?

The air quality is bad today and its been bad on and off the last week or so even in the cold. Its so thick in Annandale and fairfax. Does anyone know what's causing this? I also have a migraine since yesterday.

I think it is just a series of stagnant days with weak winds. Should get better this weekend.

It’s winter. Temperature inversions + cold damp air. It’s been like this since forever. The sun will come back in May.

Winters here are pretty good pollution wise. It's summers that have significant ozone pollution. This run of bad air is unusual for this time of year.

^ to clarify, right now we have particulate pollution, not ozone.
