Are there nice hotels at Colonial Beach? I see motels and houses you can rent. |
The town is quaint but the "beach" itself isn't much. Probably why there hasn't been much commercial development (hotels, motels) there.
Had a friend who owned a cottage there. It was nice to visit for a day but I wouldn't vacation there. |
A dumpster? |
My recommendation is to find somewhere else to go. We went around last Easter and we all hated it. |
+20000 What are you talking about op? |
Do your research OP. Nobody goes on vacay here. |
Yeah, that's a big old nope. You're better off in St. Mary's or Calvert county, MD than Colonial Beach. It's not a real beach or town really. It's just kinda ick. Used to live near there and was glad to get out. |
This is OP. I’m the author of the other post about disability limiting us to within an pm hour or two of Arlington, so we can’t be too picky about the beach. If you have other beach hotels to recommend within an hour or two (but not 2.5 or 3 — that’s further than we can travel) of Arlington, I’d love to know them. Thank you! |
Solomon's has a small tourism industry. Some hotels, the museum, Calvert Cliffs state park. Across the bridge you could visit Leonardtown for an afternoon, go to St. Clement's ISland or St. Mary's City. Or the museum at Pax River. |
I lived in Southern MD for a long time. I would go to Solomons Island to stay (or really at any of the hotels near PAX River NAS). You can then go to to Point Lookout State Park to go to the beach. We did this year round. It's a bay beach. You also have the following: Calvert Marine Museum, the museum at PAX River with a flight line, Piney Point Lighthouse Museum. |
Easily the biggest vacation mistake we ever made. Like staying is a destitute, poverty stricken slum. We left early after a couple days. It’s literally what you expect in the poorest rural communities. |
Just stay home. |
OmG no. Why are you going there? |
OP, Its just that its not really a beach. I don't know why they call it that. Its along the dirty potomac river. |
I know that there are some Air B&Bs. Would that work? |
